Stephen Merritt new album

Tickets go on sale this Saturday at noon for the Magnetic Fields at the Town Hall on May 21. Stephen Merritt and crew will be touring to support their new album I, out on May 4. The long-awaited follow-up to the brilliant (though sprawling) 69 Love Songs, the concept behind is I is that every song name starts with the letter I. Pretty deep. The songs:

I Die

I Don't Believe You

I Don't Really Love You Anymore

I Looked All Over Town

I Thought You Were My Boyfriend

I Was Born

I Wish I Had an Evil Twin

If There's Such a Thing as Love

I'm Tongue-Tied

In an Operetta

Infinitely Late at Night

Irma

Is This What They Used to Call Love?

It's Only Time

I've yet to hear the album, but still can't wait for the show. You see, I'm still cursing myself for missing the complete performance of 69 Love Songs over two nights at Lincoln Center a couple years back. (I even had tickets. I know.) Plus the Town Hall is the best seated venue in NYC in my book. The Magnetic Fields also play Zankel Hall (Carnegie Hall's newest addition) in November.

The show isn't up on Ticketmassa yet, but should be by Saturday. Of course, TM's fees seem to be getting worse by the show - you can avoid them by getting your tickets at Other Music or the Town Hall box office.
